Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama has arrived in Berlin, meeting German Chancellor Angela Merkel and kicking off the European leg of his overseas trip amid high expectations.

The German capital is part of a trip, which includes stops in Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, France and Britain, designed to allow the first-term Illinois senator to burnish his foreign credentials.

In Berlin, Obama met with Chancellor Angela Merkel. He's also slated to meet with Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and deliver an outdoor speech before a large crowd.
