President Hamid Karzai tells Channel 4 News that British troops being sent to his country will have a local job to do, but will also be protecting global security.

Soon more 3000 British troops will be attempting the lofty task of peace keeping and taking on Afghanistan's drugs Lords.

A two day conference on Afghanistan's future, starting in London tomorrow, is looking to map out a route for the country's future development.

The British forces are due to be deployed in Afghanistan's Helmand Province, a major centre of opium production and a stronghold of a resurgent Taliban.

Earlier, I talked to the Afghan President Hamid Karzai and began by asking him whether he thought the British deployment in Helmand would be a dangerous one.
