Mayor in plea over 9/11 health care

Updated on 31 July 2008

Source PA News

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg went to Congress on Thursday seeking long-term care for sick September 11 site workers and was challenged to justify its cost.

Mr Bloomberg, who has made such pleas before, urged a House subcommittee to advance a Bill creating a long-term programme to treat workers and residents made sick by exposure to toxic dust and debris.

Initial cost estimates range from eight billion US dollars (£4 billion) to 13 billion US dollars (£6.5 billion) over 10 years.
