The conflict is even straining the special relationship. Tonight a surprise diplomatic rift has blown up between the United States and Britain over the shipment of bunker busting bombs to Israel through a British airport.

In an interview a short while ago, the Foreign Secretary told Jon Snow that she is not happy that Prestwick airport was used over the weekend as a staging post for two American cargo planes filled with the 5000 pound smart bombs.

The US is providing Israel with the weapons to attack Hizbollah strongholds in Lebanon.

But they started by discussing today's meeting in Rome, and Margaret Beckett told him that even though no ceasefire had been agreed, that didn't mean the meeting had failed.
