Lights return after Brazil blackout
Updated on 11 November 2009
Brazil has emerged from a widespread power cut that plunged as many as 60 million people in its major cities into darkness for hours.
Power went out for more than two hours late on Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and other major cities, affecting millions of people, after transmission problems knocked one of the world's biggest hydroelectric dams off-line.
All of neighbouring Paraguay was plunged into the dark, but for less than a half hour.
