Updated on 31 July 2007
A former Khmer Rouge chief who used to preside over a torture centre has spent his first night in a detention cell at the Cambodian genocide tribunal, a spokesman for the tribunal said.
Duch, also known as Kaing Guek Eav, was charged on Tuesday with crimes against humanity.
"He was placed in a detention room (on Tuesday) night. He is the first occupant to occupy that new detention facility after he was charged by the co-investigating judges," Reach Sambath, the spokesman, said.
