Tributes have been pouring in this morning to the comedian Ronnie Barker, who's died, aged 76, following a long period of heart trouble.

Best known for his double act with Ronnie Corbett in 'The Two Ronnies', he was one of Britain's most loved and respected comedians.

The Two Ronnies brought both of them worldwide fame. But Barker was already making a name for himself as the smart-alec prisoner Fletcher in the prison series Porridge, and as the stuttering shopkeeper Arkwright in Open All Hours.

He surprised everyone in showbusiness by announcing his retirement at the age of 57 in 1987.
