Interview: Dr Hans Blix

Updated on 12 May 2008

By Kylie Morris

As he launches his new book on nuclear disarmament, Dr Hans Blix talks to Kylie Morris about the possibility of a repeat of the Iraq war in Iran.

Talks resumed today between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency over Tehran's disputed nuclear programme.

With hawkish threats from Washington on both sides of politics - should Iran press ahead with what it is feared is a plan to build nuclear weapons? - it is all feeling a bit like Iraq mark II.

Back then, as the US rattled its sabres, it was the weapons inspectors, led by Hans Blix, who tried to keep both sides honest.

It is an argument he takes up in his new book, Why Nuclear Disarmament Matters.

More4 News spoke to Dr Blix, and asked him whether negotiations could prevent a repeat of the Iraq war in Iran.
