France agrees EU treaty

French politicians voted to ratify the new European Union treaty.
The National Assembly, the lower house of Parliament, approved it by 336 votes 52.
With the vote of the upper house, the Senate, being seen as a formality, President Nicolas Sarkozy, who has championed the treaty, was likely to sign the ratification soon.
