The writer of a best-selling memoir, which was rather more fiction than fact has called it 'an imperfect animal' which had an 'emotional truth'.
James Frey appeared on one of America's biggest talk shows last night to defend his book, after its publishers offered disgruntled readers a complete refund.
And he got some unexpected support - as Keme Nzerem reports from Washington.
