Long delays continue as Channel Tunnel remains closed after fire

Updated on 12 September 2008

By Julian Rush

Long tailbacks in Folkestone as the Channel Tunnel is closed after a fire on a freight train.

It's not just XL customers who've had problems today. Passengers hoping to use the Channel Tunnel also faced disruption after a fire on a freight train.

The tunnel is still closed following the blaze that broke out yesterday seven miles from Calais, but that didn't stop travellers from arriving at the Eurostar terminal in London, from where 30,000 people were due to travel to the continent.

Freight drivers were also affected, with long tailbacks on roads near the Eurotunnel terminal at Folkestone.
