A particularly strong aftershock from the earthquake that hit Italy registers a magnitude of 4.7 and is felt 60 miles away in Rome.

With hopes of finding survivors fading, the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi confirmed that more than 200 people are now known to have died in the powerful earthquake which severely damaged the mediaeval city of L'Aquila.

The disaster has left more than 17,000 others homeless and the area continues to be rocked by tremors.
