Fire closes Channel tunnel
Updated on 11 September 2008
The Channel tunnel is evacuated after a fire breaks out on a lorry carrying chemicals.
Several people suffered smoke inhalation in the blaze which happened on a freight train seven miles from the French coast between Calais and Folkestone.
The lorry is believed to have overturned on the train.
Thirty-two lorry drivers were evacuated through a safety tunnel and train traffic through the main tunnel has been suspended while the French and British fire service carry out an investigation.
