Villages abandoned - thousands forced to flee their homes - pursued by a violent Arab militia. This is not Sudan's war torn Darfur region - but neighbouring Chad.

Its President says his country is a victim of conflict spilling over the border - and claims that rebels trained and armed by Khartoum are trying to overthrow him.

There's no comment from Sudan - but evidence from Chad's borders with western Darfur reveals a land haunted by the looming threat of war.

In villages east of Goz Beida - the organisation Human rights watch has been documenting what's going on as our foreign affairs correspondent Jonathan Miller reports. His report does contain distressing images.
