Dictator shuns communism for luxury
Updated on 09 November 2009
North Korean leader Kim Jong Il - known for shunning air travel - has six luxurious special trains equipped with conference halls and high-tech communication facilities, according to a South Korean newspaper.
There are also 19 stations across North Korea exclusively for Kim's trains, which have a total of some 90 carriages, the mass-circulation Chosun Ilbo newspaper said, citing an analysis by South Korean and US intelligence authorities.
It said the intelligence was obtained by US spy satellites and U-2 reconnaissance planes and the testimonies of North Korean defectors.
