Demands made for aid to Gaza

Israel is under intense pressure to open the Gaza strip to humanitarian aid - with the UN warning of disaster if fuel and electricity supplies are not restored.

Gaza's borders have been closed since the abduction of an Israeli soldier on Sunday.
Overnight, Israeli bombers pounded targets across Gaza, including the only power station and Palestinian government offices - in an effort to secure the release of the soldier.
Today the Palestinian prime minister Ismail Haniyeh said his government was working hard to end the crisis.
But Israel says it will keep up the pressure until the soldier is returned.
