Copenhagen stalemate wastes vital hours
Updated on 14 December 2009
Negotiations at the UN summit on climate change in Copenhagen teetered today after developing countries withdrew their co-operation.
At one stage they were suspended as developing countries accused organisers of doing deals without them behind closed doors.
The EU is pushing for an entirely new agreement over cuts in emissions. It would replace the deal agreed under the Kyoto protocol of 1997, which brought benefits and investment for poorer developing countries - benefits they don't want to lose.
Talks have now resumed, but vital hours were wasted.
