A Serbian man who lives in Northamptonshire has been charged with war crimes in Serbia.

Milorad Pejic, 39, was arrested when he flew to Belgrade last month to visit his mother.

War crime prosecutors allege that he was part of the Vukovar territorial defence force that allegedly executed 200 prisoners of war at a pit at Grabovo, Ovcara in 1991.

A statement released by the Serbian war crimes prosecutor said: "The war crimes prosecutor has proposed that the case against Pejic should be included in the joint proceedings currently conducted against 16 individuals before the Belgrade District Court's War Crimes Chamber.

"The prosecutor's proposal is based on the fact that the current court proceedings and the case against Pejic address the same event and involve the same evidence.

"Further to the prosecutor's assessment, the crime at issue was a joint enterprise aimed at the accomplishment of a common unlawful goal."

Pejic has lived in the UK since 1999 and he has dual Croatian and British citizenship.

He has been living in the town of Corby with his wife and two sons, while working as a locksmith.
