Australian PM leads Ledger tributes

Heath Ledger will be remembered for delivering "some of the greatest performances by an Australian actor", the country's prime minister said.

Kevin Rudd said he was "deeply saddened" by Ledger's death "in the prime of his life" and added his work was both "diverse and challenging".

Brokeback Mountain star Ledger was found dead with sleeping pills near his naked body in his New York apartment on Tuesday.
