India calls for Pakistani action

By Kylie Morris

Updated on 01 December 2008

India summons Pakistan's high commissioner to lodge a formal protest about the role of Pakistani nationals in the Mumbai attacks.

Pakistan's government have strongly denied any involvement, but relations are tense. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is on her way to the region, but she stopped off in London today.

The efforts to avoid a crisis between India and Pakistan will be watched closely by president elect Barack Obama. He unveiled his foreign affairs team today including new secretary of state Hillary Clinton.

He said it was up to the present to deal with the diplomatic fallout, but also showed that he was keeping a close eye on the situation. Joining us from Washington is Caroline Wadhams, a senior policy analyst at the Center for American Progress who specializes in Pakistan and terror issues.
