Commanding officer killed in Afghanistan

Tributes have been paid to Lieutenant Colonel Rupert Thorneloe, the commander of the First Battalion, Welsh Guards, who was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.
Lieutenant Colonel Thorneloe is the most senior British officer to be killed in action since the Falklands War 27 years ago.
Trooper Joshua Hammond, 18, also died and six other soldiers were hurt in the attack in Helmand province.
The Prince of Wales, who was a friend of Lieutenant Colonel Thorneloe, said this morning he was "completely mortified" to hear of his death.
