Burma: 15,000 death toll set to rise

By John Sparks

Updated on 06 May 2008

The cyclone in Burma has left at least 15,000 dead. And with another 30,000 missing, the number could rise even further.

Hundreds of thousands more have been left without shelter or clean drinking water.

The hard-line military government says it will accept outside help, but it is not clear how much aid will get through.

Some aid IS making its way to the main city Rangoon. But the low-lying Irrawaddy delta is the hardest hit area. It is thought 10,000 people were killed in the town of Bogalay alone.
