Aid agencies launch Burma appeal...

By James Blake

Updated on 07 May 2008

Aid agencies in the UK launch a major appeal on behalf of the victims of the Burmese cyclone

The Disasters Emergency Committee has been holding talks about an appeal similar to that launched in the aftermath of the tsunami in 2004.

The death toll in Burma after Cyclone Nargis is now estimated at more than 22,000, although some reports put it as high as 60,000. And food prices are reported to have risen by 50 per cent overnight.
