When Tony Blair sent British troops to Afghanistan one of the great benefits of overthrowing the Taliban he said would be to seriously disrupt the opium trade.

The country supplies nearly 90 per cent of the world's heroin but the last five years has seen production rocket rather than decline and a bumper harvest is expected this year.

As part of Channel 4 News's week of programming from Afghanistan, we have been given rare access to some of the smugglers involved in this illegal and dangerous trade.
