The world's top golfer Tiger Woods has left hospital with facial lacerations, despite reports suggesting he had been "seriously injured" in a Florida car crash.

A newspaper report suggested a vehicle hit a fire hydrant and a tree and Woods was taken to a hospital in Ocoee.

It is claimed the accident happened at around 2.25am as Woods pulled his Cadillac Escalade out of his driveway.

The report said the airbags in his car did not deploy.

Florida Highway Patrol told the newspaper the crash is under investigation and charges are pending.

But less than an hour after the reports of the accident emerged, it was annouced that Woods had been released from hospital.

A spokesman for the golfer said: "He was admitted, treated and released today in good condition."

He is one of the richest sportsmen on Earth and only made a comeback earlier this year after reconstructive knee surgery.

He has not won a major title since he clinched victory in a dramatic play-off at the 2008 US Open.
