Powerful aftershocks hit Peru
Updated on 18 August 2007
An aftershock measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale hit Peru yesterday, following Wednesday's devasting earthquake in the same region. Rescuers are still searching for survivors.
A series of aftershocks have struck Peru as rescue workers continue to search through the rubble searching for survivors from Wednesday's earthquake.
More than 500 people are thought to have died and thousands more have been left homeless as the powerful aftershocks continued.
Our reporter Guillermo Galdos has travelled from Peru's capital Lima to Ica, which was close to the quake's epicentre, and then on to the coastal town of Pisco where dozens died when a church collapsed. Thousands of people there are now living on the streets in spite of the cold weather.
The report contains images that some may find disturbing.
