Motives behind Fort Hood shooting

Updated on 07 November 2009

By Channel 4 News

Investigators in the United States are trying find a motive behind the mass shooting at a Texas military base, which left 13 people dead and more than 40 wounded. Benjamin Cohen reports

It's still unknown why Major Nidal Malik Hasan, a man dedicated to helping his fellow soldiers, allegedly turned on them, firing over 100 shots.

Hasan had told neighbours he was being deployed and gave away his belongings - vegetables, a matress, clothing - and copies of the Quran

He's been described as an introvert who didn't socialise, but his family say the man they've seen on television isn't the one they knew.
