By Jonathan Miller

Updated on 13 February 2009

Investigators try to find out what caused a plane to crash into a house in an American suburb, killing everyone on board.

Forty-nine passengers and crew and a man on the ground died when the plane came down in the early hours of this morning.

There were three people in the house at the time, with two of them, a woman and a child, escaping with only minor injuries.

The flight was on its way from Newark airport in New Jersey to Buffalo airport in New York state.

It crashed in the suburb of Clarence Center, just short of its destination.

The police said it was amazing there were no other people killed on the ground.
