Hillary Clinton facing second defeat

By Sarah Smith

Updated on 06 January 2008

She was once seen as a dead cert for the Democratic nomination for the Presidency. Now Hillary Clinton could be facing a second defeat by her main challenger, Barack Obama.

The latest polls ahead of this week's crucial New Hampshire primary show Mr Obama either pulling ahead of Mrs Clinton or neck and neck.

The two Senators were among ten Presidential candidates to take part in live televised debates this weekend, following the caucuses in Iowa earlier this week.

Mr Obama won at the Democratic caucuses and Mike Huckabee won for the Republicans.

The presidential hopefuls clashed at the TV debates over key election issues such as the Iraq War, hoping to pull in more supporters as the nomination contest heats up.

The primaries in New Hampshire will take place on Tuesday.
