Haiti quake: satellite images of devastation
Updated on 14 January 2010
New satellite images have revealed the scale of devastation across the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince in the aftermath of Tuesday's 7.0 magnitude quake.
The US geological survey has produced what it calls a shake map to show how entire neighbourhoods have been destroyed in Port-au-Prince.
The scale of the destruction can be seen when photographs of areas are compared to satellite images taken before Tuesday's earthquake and its aftershocks.
Among the buildings to have been badly damaged is the city's Notre Dame cathedral after its roof fell in.
The satellite images reveal how the presidential palace has also partially collapsed.
Mapping the location of the areas worst hit is crucial to help aid workers see which roads and bridges are still intact.
Search giant Google has also updated its Google Earth service with images taken yesterday afternoon to highlight the scale of the task relief workers now face.
