But today's services of remembrance in New York and Washington follow five years of President Bush's war on terror.

Fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq drags on with no clear resolution in sight. And Osama Bin Laden remains at large, mocking the world's only superpower once again today with a message broadcast across the internet.
