Afghanistan terror attacks 'up 16%'
Updated on 30 April 2008
Al-Qaida has rebuilt some of its pre-September 11 capabilities from remote hiding places in Pakistan, and terrorist attacks in neighbouring Afghanistan have increased 16% last year, the US have said.
Meanwhile, attacks in Pakistan doubled between 2006 and 2007 and the number of fatalities quadrupled, the State Department said.
The department's annual terrorism report says that attacks in Iraq dipped slightly between 2006 and 2007, but they still accounted for 60% of worldwide terrorism fatalities.
