Woman's mugging brings on labour

Updated on 29 November 2008

A heavily pregnant woman went into labour after being attacked by two muggers in north London.

Anastasia Bloom, 30, was walking through Camden with her mother on Thursday when she was approached by two men on bicycles.

The men forced her to the ground and stole jewellery from her before fleeing.

Although Mrs Bloom was unhurt, she went into labour and was taken to a nearby hospital, where she gave birth. Both mother and baby are said to be doing well.

Police have described the suspects as black males aged between 17 and 20, one wearing "predominantly black clothing" and one wearing "predominantly grey clothing".

The attackers escaped in the direction of Swiss Cottage, leaving one of the bicycles behind.

Anyone who saw the attack should contact Kentish Town police station on 0208 733 6116, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
