Two held over transsexual's murder

Two people are being questioned in connection with the murder of a transsexual found strangled in her home.

An 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were arrested in south London and remain in custody at a south London police station.

Kellie Telesford was found dead in her flat in Thornton Heath, south London, on November 21, after friends raised concerns for her welfare. Officers forced their way into the flat and discovered her body.

The 40-year-old was born as a man, named Kayiode Dexter Telesford, but had been living as a woman for several years.

Police have appealed to anyone who had contact with Miss Telesford between November 15 and 21 to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons, who is leading the investigation, said: "We would also like to speak to anyone who knew or who has had a relationship with Kellie to help us build a picture of her lifestyle."

Miss Telesford is known to have frequented popular gay and lesbian nightspots in the Croydon and Brixton areas, and Mr Lyons said the help of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community was vital to the investigation.

"I would also like to reassure all parts of the community affected by Kellie's murder that our dedicated team of detectives are committed to finding the person responsible," he said.

"It should be stressed though that we have not seen any further incidents similar to Kellie's murder."

Anyone with information on the killing is asked to contact the incident room on 020 8721 4205, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
