Tributes to dead as troops return

Updated on 17 April 2009

By Carl Dinnen

Plymouth comes to a standstill as thousands line the streets to welcome British soldiers home from Afghanistan.

Four hundred and fifty soldiers from 29 Commando regiment, Royal Artillery, paraded through Plymouth to mark their homecoming.

The parade was followed by a service of thanksgiving at St Andrew's Church, relayed on huge screens to crowds outside.

But there was also a more sombre note as the men paid tribute to two of their colleagues who were killed in action during the six month tour of Helmand province.
