Tewkesbury flood protests

By Channel 4 News

Updated on 18 August 2007

Around 5,000 people in flood-hit Tewkesbury have marched through the town centre in protest against plans to build new homes on flood plains.

Homes and businesses in the Gloucestershire town were swamped under flood waters just a month ago.

Today's march was organised by town councillors as a response to being blamed for allowing new developments - although they say they've been told to by the government. Protesters left a symbolic bottle of water on the borough council's doorstep.
