The British Airports Authority says that delays are likely at UK airports today and over the weekend. It advises passengers to allow extra time for their journey and to arrive at airports prepared.

Hand baggage restrictions are in place, and passengers will be hand-searched. Information correct as at Friday 1130 hours.
THE AIRPORTS
Heathrow
Most inbound flights are arriving on time, but flights from the US have been heavily delayed.
Gatwick
One British Airways flight to Gatwick has been cancelled. There are long queues for security checks. An airport spokesman has advised passengers to allow extra time to travel.
Stansted
A spokesman said the airport is much calmer today, although it may be next week before things return to normal. He said new baggage restrictions mean it is taking longer for people to get through security.
Luton Airport
A spokesman said that in addition to the axing of all easyJet domestic flights, a small number of outbound international flights and some inbound flights have been scrapped. Virgin Atlantic is operating normal services, with some delays.
Birmingham International Airport
A spokesman said 80% of flights are leaving and arriving on time. The average delay is 20 minutes. Exceptions are flights from America, three of which have run between 90 minutes and two hours late.
Manchester Airport
The airport has said that flights to North America and domestic destinations have been worst affected by yesterday's alert. Some passengers have had to wait for as long as 17 hours for planes from the US and Canada.
Glasgow Prestwick
The airport said it that its Ryanair service to and from Stansted has been cancelled. However, BA hopes to operate a "near normal" schedule.
Edinburgh Airport
BAA Scotland has said that 20 departing flights from the airport have been cancelled. Those travelling on transatlantic services should expect waits of more than an hour.
Cardiff International Airport
The airport has said that some flights have been delayed for up to an hour and a half. Local police say the public should expect delays in and around the airport.
Leeds Bradford International Airport
Some flights are being delayed by up to half an hour. A spokeswoman urged travellers to get to the airport as early as they can.
Durham Tees Valley Airport
An airport spokeswoman said all this morning's flights, except one to Heathrow, were expected to leave as planned. Extra police patrols mean that passengers should expect delays.
Belfast City/International
The flow of passengers through Belfast City airport is reported to be going better than expected. Flights were cancelled yesterday between Belfast's International City airports and London airports.
