Rooney suffered 'minor' ankle damage

Manchester United offer England fans some cheer by confirming Wayne Rooney suffered only "minor" ankle damage in the club's Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.
Wayne Rooney had a scan yesterday on his return to the UK from Germany.
A statement on the club website today said the striker had received only "minor" ankle ligament damage.
"We are pleased to report that Wayne has not suffered a fracture," a United spokesperson said.
"The scan revealed only minor ligament damage."
Rooney's right ankle had buckled on Tuesday night after the Germany striker Mario Gómez had landed on his left foot.
United did not say how long they expect the striker to be out of action for their side, which faces Chelsea on Saturday for a match which some commentators believe could decide the outcome of the Premier League title.
But the news is good for England manager Fabio Capello, who should still have his talisman in the World Cup side for its first match in June.
It has been suggested Rooney faces a recovery period of between two and four weeks, which could put him in contention for a Champions League semi-final, providing United overhaul Bayern's 2-1 first-leg advantage.
