RAF criticised over Hercules crash

By Sue Turton

Updated on 22 October 2008

The coroner at the inquest of 10 servicemen killed when their Hercules was downed in Iraq criticises the RAF's poor record keeping. Sue Turton reports.

A coroner ruling on an inquest into the deaths of 10 British servicemen has said the hearing was "plagued by an inability to retrieve documents" from the Royal Air Force.

Wiltshire coroner David Masters made the remark while passing his verdict after a two month hearing.

Nine RAF personnel and one soldier were killed when their RAF Hercules C130k aircraft, from 47 Squadron Special Forces, was shot down shortly after take-off in Iraq.
