More4 News tweeted the 12 government departments who do use the service and asked them to sum up in a 140 characters what their current priorities are and this is what they said:

The Treasury wants to "Maintain sound public finances, ensure sustainable economic growth & well-being & prosperity for all."

The Foreign Office's aims are "Reducing conflict, terrorism and proliferation. Supporting Brits abroad, low-carbon growth and effective global institutions."

Meanwhile the MoD wants "Success on operations, supporting our people, battle-winning kit, ensuring VFM, building for the future."

Communities and local government say they want "To create places where people want to live, work & raise a family."

The department for international development are "Focusing on fragile countries, tackling climate change, ensuring every pound of UK aid is well spent."

And the Ministry of Justice say, "Overall, our goal lies in creating a safe, just and democratic society."

The department of business also replied, as did Downing Street who directed us to a letter Gordon Brown wrote detailing government priorities.

Four government departments do not tweet, including the department for culture media and sport - although they were keen to point out two of their ministers do have accounts.
