MP spouse expenses appeal withdrawn

Source PA News

Updated on 26 October 2007

The House of Commons authorities have withdrawn an appeal against a Freedom of Information ruling that MPs must publish details of travel expenses claimed for wives or husbands.

Information Commissioner Richard Thomas ruled in September last year that MPs must release a detailed breakdown of their travel expenses by mode of transport - road, rail or air - as well as expenses claimed for their spouses.

The House of Commons Commission originally argued that this was exempt personal information under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act and that disclosure would breach the Data Protection Act.
