'Most miserable' Blue Monday ever
Updated on 19 January 2009
January 19, 2009 has been dubbed the most depressing "Blue Monday" in history.
Experts have worked it out by using a formula of six factors which includes the weather, debt and abandoned New Year's resolutions.
Monday is generally considered the worst day of the week with many dreading the prospect of returning to work.
The added strain of the credit crunch and job losses makes this year's Blue Monday the toughest yet, according to experts.
Psychologist Dr Cliff Arnall said: "The credit crunch means today is potentially the most depressing Blue Monday we have had."
The former academic at Cardiff University said the best way to overcome the Monday blues is to do something fun.
He added: "People feeling depressed could put on a fun DVD, get some friends over for something to eat or call someone they've put off calling for months or years."
