Man jailed for racist murder

A man has been jailed for 18 years for an unprovoked racist murder in Glasgow. He was caught celebrating on CCTV after the attack.

Christopher Miller stabbed Indian naval officer Kahal Mohanty in the neck as he was walking to a restaurant.

Twenty five year old Christopher Miller was caught on CCTV celebrating, sweatshirt over his head, arms in the air, with his mate only minutes after slashing the throat of an Indian naval student Kunal Mohanty, who had simply been out with friends for a meal.

Glasgow High Court heard that Miller was to tell his brother later "I've just done a Paki". He had cut the seaman's throat with this sort of knife because of the colour of the student's skin.

Kunal Mohanty was on the verge of becoming a ship's captain. He was about sit his last exam at the city's nautical college when as chance would have it his path crossed that of a a violent racist.

Police expressed the hope that the verdict will offer the family some kind of comfort.
