Updated on 04 July 2009

The fire brigade calls a blaze in a south London tower block one of the most significant fires in recent times.

The fire claimed the lives of three children and three adults, including a young mother and her three-week-old baby.

As residents complained the block was a death trap with only one way out the local MP Harriet Harman questioned whether fire precaution measures were adequate.

An investigation is already underway as to how the fire spread so dangerously yesterday evening in the 12-storey block in Camberwell, South London.
