Lib Dems' walkout over Euro referendum
Updated on 26 February 2008
The Liberal Democrats have stormed out of the House of Commons in a row over a European referendum.
The party's foreign affairs spokesman Ed Davey was ejected from the chamber after repeatedly complaining that the Lib Dems' bid for a public vote on Britain's membership of the European Union was rejected.
Beleaguered Commons Speaker Michael Martin decided not to select the party's motion on the Lisbon Treaty debate.
Deputy Speaker Sir Michael Lord ordered Mr Davey out after warning him about his conduct following angry exchanges.
Mr Davey had branded the Speaker's decision an "outrage".
His ejection prompted a mass walk-out by Liberal Democrat MPs, leaving junior foreign affairs spokeswoman Jo Swinson alone in the Commons.
