Labour spending 'unsustainable`
Updated on 18 November 2008
The Tories ditched a commitment to match Labour spending plans for 2010/11, saying the "dramatically worsened" economic crisis facing the country had made them unsustainable.
Opposition leader David Cameron said voters now faced a clear choice between his "honest" approach and reckless borrowing-funded tax cuts from a Government that had "maxed out" the nation's credit card.
Business leaders insisted however that it was a false choice and called on ministers to both slash tax by £20 billion immediately and rein in Government spending in the medium term.
