Kidnapped doctor returns to UK

Updated on 16 December 2008

By Samantha Haque

The London doctor kidnapped by her own family has arrived back in Britain. But is her case the tip of the iceberg?

Among the bleary eyed passengers disembarking at Heathrow in the small hours of this morning was one east London doctor, Humayra Abedin.

Dr Abedin was held captive for months by her family and she has now told this programme she was indeed forcibly married - a wedding she will now try to annul.

However, a government minister has told More4 News there could be thousands more like Dr Abedin.

Her safe return is a major triumph for the new forced marriage act. But is her case the tip of the iceberg?
