Jackson's court date off after deal

Updated on 24 November 2008

Michael Jackson's planned appearance at the High Court has been cancelled after he reached an out-of-court settlement on Sunday night with an Arab sheikh who was suing him for £4.7 million.

The singer had been due to give evidence at the Royal Courts of Justice in a case against the King of Bahrain's son, Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

But on the eve of his highly anticipated appearance, his spokeswoman said: "As Mr Jackson was about to board his plane to London, he was advised by his legal team to postpone his travels since the parties had concluded a settlement in principle. Therefore, he will not be attending court."
