'Incompetent' Chinook procurement

A government spending watchdog criticises the procurement of eight Chinook helicopters, still not airworthy 13 years after their purchase.
It is "one of the most incompetent procurements of all time", according to a government spending watchdog.
Eight Chinook helicopters - first ordered for British troops from their American manufacturer 13 years ago - are still not airworthy, despite having had almost half a billion pounds spent on them.
While soldiers in Afghanistan have to make do with patched-up earlier versions and perilous road transport, the Chinooks stand idle in air-conditioned hangars.
