Heavy rain prompts weather warnings

Updated on 13 December 2008

Heavy rain has prompted the Met Office to issue severe weather warnings for much of the UK.

About 15mm of rain could fall over just three hours in Wales, south-west and north-west England and west and south-west Scotland, with up to 40mm of rain accumulating in some areas by the morning.

It advised the public to take "extra care" and keep abreast of flood warnings and updates on road conditions.
